Job Title: OEM Tech Manager

Department: Service (Tech) Department

Summary

Deliver exceptional customer service, in-depth product knowledge, and technical support for repair work, with a strong focus on serving our OEM customer base in Tennessee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle incoming and outgoing calls using the designated phone script.
  • Adhere to all departmental procedures and protocols.
  • Continuously expand product knowledge to effectively support service repairs.
  • Collaborate with other technicians to troubleshoot and develop repair solutions.
  • Conduct timely follow-up communications with customers.
  • Engage in ongoing education on products and provide technical assistance for repairs.
  • Accurately enter and maintain service-related information in NetSuite.
  • Follow proper packing and shipping instructions for all outgoing items.
  • Complete all Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requests according to established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient service department workspace.
  • Understand and communicate shelving procedures for warranty items, customer-approved repairs, B-stock, defective items, and more.
  • Verify all associated costs prior to billing for repair services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper SKU codes and their applications.
  • Differentiate between warranty replacements (new products) and repair services.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with OEM accounts, including key personnel.
  • Monitor and track parts inventory specific to OEM accounts.

OEM Site Visit Responsibilities

This position requires the candidate to live in Knoxville, Tennessee. The OEM Tech Manager must travel to scheduled OEM accounts to provide education and training on proper product installation, while promoting the value and integrity of the Wet Sounds brand. Building relationships with key personnel and supporting the development of best practices with our business partners is essential. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of key OEM contacts and maintain accurate and up-to-date contact information.
  • Gain familiarity with the configuration of the boat or product being manufactured by the customer.
  • Prepare a detailed agenda prior to each site visit to ensure all objectives are clearly defined.
  • Share the agenda with the customer in advance to ensure all relevant personnel are properly informed and available.
  • Manage time efficiently during visits, keeping in mind the importance of strengthening our partnership and maximizing overall visit effectiveness.
  • Maintain a professional appearance by wearing approved Wet Sounds attire.

Education & Experience

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. A minimum of 5 years of 12v installation experience is required. An equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Capable of writing basic correspondence and effectively communicating in one-on-one or small group settings with customers, clients, and colleagues.

Mathematica Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or verbal instructions. Capable of resolving issues involving limited variables in routine, standardized situations.

Technical Skills

Basic computer literacy required. Must be able to download customer files, convert documents to print format, scan, perform file transfers, and complete other related computer-based tasks.

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Application Technician to support product development through real-world installation, testing, and fabrication. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a shop environment, solving practical problems, and contributing directly to product performance and innovation.

What You’ll Do

  • Install and test audio systems in boats, vehicles, and powersports applications
  • Design and fabricate custom solutions (enclosures, mounts, adapters)
  • Build and maintain testing fixtures and evaluation systems
  • Conduct product comparisons and performance testing
  • Prototype and refine new product concepts
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams on improvements
  • Maintain shop organization, tools, and workflow efficiency

What You Bring

  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in audio, 12V systems, marine, automotive, or powersports
  • Strong fabrication and installation skills (wood, fiberglass, plastics, or metal a plus)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve real-world technical problems
  • Comfort working with tools, software, and evolving technology
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment with tools, equipment, and noise
