There are 777 miles of Pennsylvania public ATV trails, making this a great area for riders who are looking for a rugged adventure. Many of the ATV trails in PA are conveniently located in state forests, which are open to riders from the Friday before Memorial Day to the last full weekend of September. Pennsylvania is also home to several expansive ATV parks that maintain exciting trails for riders of all skill levels. Whether you're looking for an adult excursion or a family camping trip, we can recommend an ATV experience in PA that will suit your needs.

The Allegheny National Forest is home to several outstanding Pennsylvania ATV trails. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, this park features plateaus up to 2,300 feet and valleys that dip to 1,000 feet above sea level. The scenic forested landscape makes for a memorable ATV adventure. The offerings here include:

  • Marienville ATV/OHM Trail: 14 miles, difficult.
  • Penoke ATV/OHM Trail: 23.1 miles, most difficult.
  • Rocky Gap ATV/Mountain Bike Trail: 21.9 miles, intermediate.
  • Timberline ATV/OHM Trail: 39 miles, easy.
  • Willow Creek ATV/Mountain Bike Trail: 10.8 miles, intermediate.

You must obtain a pass to ride on these trails. Daily passes are $10 and annual passes are $35.

Majestic Trails

Located in north-central Pennsylvania, Majestic Trails offers two ATV trail loops that total more than 40 miles. The trail system is clearly marked to help you distinguish intermediate, advanced, and expert trails. We also enjoyed the easy-back shortcuts along the trail that will take you back to the trailhead.

On-site accommodations include rustic camping, a two-bedroom bunkhouse, a one-bedroom cabin, and a five-bedroom log home. Trail passes are $25 a day or $40 for two days. Passengers and children are just $10 a day.

Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area

The Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) offers a spiderweb of trails that cover hundreds of miles, so you can customize your adventure with every run. Full-size trails and dirt bike trails are available as well. You can camp at the trailhead near the AOAA welcome center. ATV passes are $28 for one day, $38 for two days, and $50 for three days.

Rock Run Recreation Area

Rock Run Recreation Area offers 140 miles of trails that are accessible for ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. If you're looking for PA ATV trails with a variety of difficulty levels, we think this park is the perfect destination. The trail map clearly identifies the easy trails, more difficult trails, and most difficult trails. The park has five campgrounds with a total of more than 350 primitive campsites if you'd like to stay overnight. Sixteen additional campsites are available with 30 and 50 amp hookups.

The park is open from April through October. A weekend day pass is $20, while a day pass on Wednesday or Thursday is just $15. Additional consecutive days are $15 each. Additional fees apply to special events. Rock Run Recreation Area hosts two annual events. The ATV Summer Blast takes place on the second full weekend in August, and the Rally at the Rock happens on the last weekend in September.

Bloody Skillet ATV Trail

The Bloody Skillet ATV trail has 35.93 miles accessible to Class II ATVs that are less than 1,200 pounds and under 58 inches wide. ATVs must have three or more wheels for this trail. Located in the Sproul State Forest, this route covers hard-packed roads that were once coal mining trails, with some bridge crossings. There are a few steep hills but no water crossings, making this a fairly easy choice with outstanding scenery.

Four Seasons Resort

The Four Seasons Resort offers 35 miles of well-groomed ATV trails with options for every skill level. We suggest this destination if you're looking for a family-friendly vacation destination with ATV trails in PA. In addition to the ATV trails, you'll also find an Olympic-size swimming pool, stocked pond, Rollerblade hockey, basketball, volleyball, softball, horseshoes, and a radio control track.

You can choose from a basic campsite, an RV/tent site with electric and water, or an RV site with electric, water, and sewer. A two-bedroom cottage, one-room cabin, motel, and apartments are available to rent as well, so you have your choice of accommodations.

Mountain Ridge ATV Park

You'll find six easy trails, six moderate trails, and four hard trails available at the Mountain Ridge ATV Park, covering over 140 miles. You can enjoy any type of ATV riding in PA at this destination, with mud bogs, hill climbs, and even a kiddie track. If you'd like to try ATVing in Pennsylvania after dark, you can even sign up for a night ride.

Camping is available both with and without electricity. Riding rates are $30 a person Friday through Sunday and $25 a person Monday through Thursday. A two-day pass is $50 per person.

Lost Trails ATV Adventures

If you're looking for distinctive PA ATVing opportunities, we think Lost Trails ATV Adventures should be at the top of your list. Try the cliffside "Top of the World" trail, ride to "The Lake", or brave "The Tunnel," which takes you through a long watery rock tunnel where the dark atmosphere and echoing sounds take your ride to a whole new level. This park covers more than 2,000 acres and has an elevation change of over 2,000 feet to create ample excitement throughout your adventures.
