5 ATV Trails in St. George, Utah, Calling Your Name | Wet Sounds

Posted by Wet Sounds on 17th Jan 2022

Southwestern Utah combines desert landscape and sandstone cliffs for a rugged ATV adventure with stunning views. In St. George, Utah, you'll find a number of awesome trails and off-roading spots to stir up some dust and cover lots of terrain. In this area, you're close to the Utah-Arizona border, Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, Snow Canyon State Park, and Zion National Park. Here are five of the best ATV trails in St. George, Utah, we think you should check out.

Whitmore Canyon

Take in the most amazing views you've ever seen at Whitmore Canyon, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. You can ride along and right up to this spot by way of the St. George Drive OHV Trail. This area is known for being an easy ride but well worth it for the unique panoramic view alone. It's a short but sweet trail, too, being only 4 miles round trip. And the best part is that it's kind of the area's little-known ATV secret since it sees way less OHV traffic than the South Rim.

Pair the awesome view with equally awesome music. Make sure to equip your ride with a powerful sound system like the Icon Series White Tower Speakers with Swivel Clamps.

The St. George Drive OHV trail is just one of a few other forest service roads that take you to this location. Though this trail is 83 total miles, you start off easy on a smooth dirt road and then finish your last 10 miles riding over ancient lava fields, which makes for a bumpy ride. This one is a bit on the rocky side, but the trail itself is still pretty moderate. That makes it a great trail for beginners and experienced riders alike.

Pine Lake OHV Loop

If you like dirt roads, you'll love Pine Lake OHV Loop that's just under 30 miles long and is primarily for off-roading. It's an easier ride through forest and mountainous terrain, so novices can have a great time navigating. But more experienced riders should come to Pine Mountain for a relaxing cruise and amazing views of Pine Lake, Powell Point Overlook, and Pole Canyon.

After your first trip through the loop, you may want to go back for more, so consider staying the night at Pine Lake Campground nearby. You can't ride your ATV in and out of the campground, but they've got a convenient corral with loading ramps.

Sand Hollow State Park

Head out to Sand Hollow State Park for some seriously fun mixed terrain. While you may find plenty of reddish sand, you'll also ride over gravel, rock, and some vegetation. Kick up some dust on your ATV as you ride along the Sand Hollow Reservoir and across the 20,000 acres that lie between St. George and nearby Hurricane, Utah.

With the mixture of terrain, there are nearly endless off-roading possibilities. You can take a joyride on the dunes for something a bit easier, or you can travel one of the Sand Mountain OHV Area trails that have high ratings for quite the challenge. If you're more into seeing how your ATV crawls the landscape, tackle the rock formations that live all around the open dunes.

You're going to need some sturdy clamps to keep your soundbar snug while you carve up the dunes. Grab one of our Stealth Clamps to keep your tunes safe.

And since you'll likely want to stay for more than one day to really explore the area, you can settle in at one of the nearby campgrounds. Enjoy amenities like restrooms and showers, grills and fire pits, and access to the water. You can even pitch a tent near the water, but not too close.

Coral Sands Dunes

Coral Sands Dunes State Park is located near Kanab, just over an hour drive from St. George. This gorgeous landscape was formed from eroding pink-colored Navajo Sandstone that stands nearby. You practically get free roam across 1,200 acres of sand dunes and hills, trees, and other vegetation, all against a stunning background. And you can go every year — the area will look just a little bit different since the natural shifting of the sand can make the dunes move as much as 50 feet each year.

Riding your ATV isn't the only fun thing you can do out here, though. Bring along a sled, sandboard, or your hiking boots and explore one of those ways after a long ride. Drive yourself out to a unique location and look around, or climb up a hill and slide your way down.

Make a whole weekend out of it and stay at the campground so you can get up bright and early and hit the dunes before everyone else. There are two options: the Old Campground doesn't have any water or electricity hookups, but the New Campground does.

Honeymoon Pack Trail

Another scenic drive around Sand Hollow State Park is Honeymoon Pack Trail. When you take this ATV trail, which is rated moderate, you have a different perspective of some of the great views you'd get in the park proper. For instance, you get to start your ride at the base of Hurricane Cliffs and climb to the top through scenic canyons and then bask in the glory of the expanse of pastoral farmlands. Then, you can ride along the cliff's edge to see all of St. George, Hurricane, and parts of Zion.

While you're riding the 14 miles, you may even experience a bit of history. You may see some original trail paths from wagons of long, long ago. With great views, moderate terrain, and only a little bit of traffic, Honeymoon Pack Trail is perfect for riders of all skill levels, but especially beginners.

When it comes to ATV adventuring, you can't go wrong with the St. George area. From easier trails you can take newer riders out on to moderate terrain that'll challenge you, this southwestern locale is perfect for every type of rider. Before you head out, make sure to equip your ride with a powerful new speaker system from Wet Sounds to blast some tunes while you're carving up the dunes.
